160 years after Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney’s infamous ruling, we are still scratching our heads over what could have been. In this eLesson students will examine the case of Dred Scott v. Sanford (1857), and the injustice that was committed in the case. Students will examine the background of the case and read for themselves the controversial case. In analyzing the majority and dissenting opinions , students will come to understand the impact of injustice upon constitutional principles and civil society.
