CultureFest & Rib Cook-Off

4/27/2006    Thursday 10:00:00 AM

Like a blast of multicolored confetti, Fiesta, with its unique blend of flavors and sounds, will shower the St. Philip’s College campus with all the vibrant color and revelry of San Antonio’s most cherished springtime tradition this April. Fiesta will make its yearly visit to St. Philip’s College when the local community college presents the 12th Annual CultureFest™ on Thursday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Among the myriad of food booths, artisans and craft vendors, games and live entertainment for all ages, the CultureFest™ features the renowned Rib Cook-Off™. 5 years ago, Chef Will Thornton and his Culinary Arts students cooked ribs during a campus festival, sending the patrons into frenzy for more ribs! A tradition was born. The Rib Cook-Off™ features local amateur and professional BBQ teams from around the city. Register your team today; there is always space for more ribs!

CultureFest™ will also be the backdrop for the annual college OPEN HOUSE. Students and community members who attend the event will have a college introduction like no other. Instead of sitting inside, the future students will be treated to an outdoor extravaganza. The Student Affairs Division will be out in force. On the CultureFest™ grounds our admissions teams will be ready to assist future students in getting enrolled on the spot! Our advising team will be there to help them pick a major. And the Financial Services team will provide students with valuable Financial Aid information. As if the future students could take any more excitement, there will be a drawing for 5 (Yes FIVE) $500 scholarships! Finally, the future St. Philip's College students will get a tour of the campus highlighting our outstanding programs and areas of study.

The CultureFest™ is fun for the entire family. The 2006 event features a Kid’s Korner and a Dance Hall. The Kid’s Korner is a special area for the young CultureFest™ patron, featuring Buster's Buddy, the Via Mobile Classroom, Build-A-Kite center, kiddie games, face painting and more. The Dance Hall will feature activities for the young at heart. There will be health information and tips for seniors, Medicare Plan D presentations, belly dancing, Loteria & Bingo and line dancing.

Rounding off the CultureFest™ are the 3rd Annual Car, Truck & Bike Show, loads of live entertainment, and “On Six Legs: Insect Festival.” There is literally something for everyone at our event.
