Event: Lear

4/10/2009 Friday

9:30:00 PM

Original text by William Shakespeare, additional material by John Poole, cutting and concept by David Robb. Art supervision by Rebecca Coffey. The Overtime Theater (website) 1216 West Ave (Map) alternate website David Robb has re-imagined Shakespeare’s classic play to reflect upon our changing times. Evocative and powerful, Robb’s Lear takes place in the not-too-distant future, where society has collapsed under the weight of modern industrialism and personal selfishness. King Lear struggles to preserve the peace of his kingdom, though a lifetime of battle has left him with a family he does not know or understand. A great first-time Shakespeare experience for those new to the Bard, and a bold new look for those familiar with the play. Dates: March 20 - April 11, 2009 Times: 9:30 pm Fridays, 8 pm Saturdays, with selected Thursday (8 pm) and Sunday (2:30 pm) shows. Tickets: $12 general admission, $9 teachers, students with ID, and seniors 65+. Purchase online: http://www.theovertimetheater.net
