 Young Scientists Club

Website: http://theyoungscientistsclub.com

The Young Scientists Club wants to introduce parents to a unique science program that will fascinate young children with the wonders of scientific discovery and spark their interest in future scientific curiosity. With The Young Scientists Club, www.theyoungscientistsclub.com, children explore science through creative and interesting experiments while enhancing their reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Each kit reinforces what was learned in previous kits as well as introduces what will be learned in future kits, creating a continuous curriculum of science learning.

Every kit contains several experiments and takes, on average, one hour to complete. The kits cover topics ranging from batteries and bacteria and fungi to the human body and surface tension. Each kit comes with all the materials needed for the experiments except for common household products. In addition, each kit contains instructions for the parents and special instructions for the children (given by the character, Celsius the Science BugŪ) that are simple enough to encourage even young children to write down their observations, measurements, and conclusions. We strongly believe that children learn more when different parts of their brains are simultaneously active during an experiment.

The Young Scientists Club was founded by Esther Novis when she was searching for fun and educational science activities for her own young children that would not only supplement the education they were receiving in school, but also instill in them a lifelong fascination with science. The lack of such activities led to the genesis of The Young Scientists Club. Each kit is carefully written and designed by Esther Novis who holds a bachelors and masters degree in biology from Harvard University. In addition, Esther Novis has many years of experience teaching at Phillips Academy, Andover and has written the science column for Parents Magazine.

The program is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 12 whose parents want to give their children an edge in their future education by introducing them to the sciences in a fun and truly educational manner. Parents with little or no science background will find the kits as easy to use as parents with advanced science degrees.

The Young Scientists Club also allows the children to become part of a club. Belonging to a Club is something all children enjoy. The Young Scientists Clubhouse is the gateway for children to continue their scientific journey by exploring the various topics covered in the kits in more detail. When the children enter the Clubhouse on the web site, they can click on individual science kit icons to obtain further information on the science topic covered. In addition, children can e-mail Celsius the Science Bug with any science-related questions they may have, as well as e-mail Celsius with their results.

The Young Scientists Club has been featured in The Providence Journal, The Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Parents, and BigAppleParent among many others. The tremendous response from these articles has shown that there is a large need for the type of science curriculum that The Young Scientists Club offers- a curriculum based on fun and educational science kits that are mailed to young children on a regular basis and that parents can enjoy with their children. The main goal of The Young Scientists Club is to teach young children throughout the country science in a fun and systematic way, and by doing so, instill in them a love for science that will last a lifetime.
