Each girl is required to have a teacher recommendation and complete two brief essay questions to become one of the 50 students to attend.

Once a student has entered their ticket request on the eventbrite,.com site, she must email Rick Varner, the director of the Scobee Education Center, to complete the registration materials: rvarner4 at alamo.edu

Fun Arts Day! For Children

This is an invitation for your 4th - 8th graders to attend Fun Arts Day!, a free arts event for children, located on the campus of OLLU. In the past years we have invited the schools to attend right after Spring Break. This year we’re having the event on March 18, the Friday during Spring Break; so this invitation is for the parents to bring their children. In the flyer attached you’ll see a schedule for the day, the bios of the teachers, and the details that the parents will need.

Fun Arts Day! is an activity of the San Antonio Folk Dance Festival held at the International Folk Culture Center (IFCC), located on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University. Just as we have in the past, we look forward to providing a wholesome, International event for your children that will help them feel like they have traveled to different countries for the day!

Please ask parents to RSVP by March 11 to ensure there is space for their children. Parents are welcome to stay. Also, if their children are interested in wearing a costume for our “International Fashion Show” please include that in the RSVP. It’s only for 30″ and then back into their comfortable play clothes.

The attachment labeled “SAFDF poster” is the flyer for the Sat. evening concert on March 19, at Thiry Auditorium, also located on the campus of OLLU; featuring: Lannaya African drum and dance, Mexican dance, Flamenco, Afro-Brazilian, German, Hungarian, Turkish by the School of Science and Technology Turkish Folk Dance Team, Peruvian, a Russian group from Houston called Uzori - dancing and singing in Russian, and a Japanese drumming group. Quite a spectacular program! Everyone can feel confident that anyone they invite will enjoy the program.

Just an FYI: the 3rd part of our festival includes Sat.+Sun. dance classes with 2 teachers from Toronto, Canada teaching Bulgarian and French-Canadian, and the 3rd teacher from the African dance and drumming group, Lannaya from Austin, Texas will be teaching some very aerobic dances. That information is on our website www.safdf.org.
